AUDREY BUXTON (DDS Class of 2017) was selected as a 2017 Vice Chancellor’s Honor Recipient. The program recognizes exceptional students who have maintained high scholastic performance while actively participating in University and community leadership and service activities outside of the classroom. Buxton was nominated by Dr. Rebeca Weisleder Urow, clinical associate professor of Endodontics.

DAVID CASTEEL (DDS Class of 2018) was elected as the American Student Dental Association (ASDA) District 8 Trustee, a national leadership position.

ANTHONY CONTRATTO (DDS Class of 2019) and MANSOOR SAFDER (DDS Class of 2020) were selected as National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) Summer Dental Student Award recipients in 2016 and is 2017, respectively. The NIDCR Summer Dental Student Award is designed to give talented dental students hands-on research experience and exposure to the latest advances in oral health research. Summer Dental Student Awardees are assigned to NIDCR mentors at the Institute who conduct research in the students’ areas of interest.

DAVID LANE (DDS Class of 2019), who was a participant in the School’s Summer Scholars program, received an American Association of Dental Research (AADR) Bloc Travel Grant to attend the IADR/AADR meeting, March 22-25, 2017, in San Francisco, Calif., to present his research project “FGF9 Regulation of Osteocyte Differentiation” Congratulations to David and his research mentors: Dr. Lora McCormick and Dr. Sarah Dallas in the Department of Oral and Craniofacial Sciences, and Dr. Mary Walker, associate dean for Research and Graduate Programs and director of the Summer Scholars Program.

HUNTER MCAREAVY (DDS Class of 2020) was selected to serve a Colgate Internship. She will spend time at their Research and Development Center over the summer.

JESSICA FAY SLIGER (DDS Class of 2018), with UMKC undergraduate students MARKIE ROACH and SAFFA RAJA, received Honorable Mention for their presentation at the second annual Social Justice Scholars Award competition. In all, 19 presentations highlighted UMKC’s commitment to social justice and student excellence.
