Top Journal Recongnizes UMKC School of Dentistry for It’s Research
The University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry placed in the Top 5 for the quality and quantity of its dental educational and scientific research in 2014, according to the Journal of Dental Education (JDE), the industry’s leading academic journal. “This accomplishment of our faculty and staff speaks to their dedicated efforts in creating scholarly works that are important contributions to the scholarship of teaching and learning and educational innovation,” said Dr. Marsha Pyle, dean of the School of Dentistry. “Our research programs bridge basic biomedical, clinical and educational research topics that bring impactful new knowledge to our profession and to patient care.” UMKC dental faculty had the fourth highest production rate of any dental school in the U.S. and Canada in the Journal of Dental Education, the publication for the American
Dental Education Association (ADEA) and the voice for dental education. Internationally recognized as the premier journal for academic dentistry, this peer-reviewed monthly publication has published educational and scientific research in dental, allied dental and advanced dental education continuously since 1936. Additionally, Nadeem Karimbux, editor of the journal, selected the top 12 articles of the year and one, “The Status of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in Dental Education,” was co-written by UMKC faculty Dr. Christopher Van Ness, assistant research professor of Restorative Clinical Sciences; Nancy Keselyak, associate professor of Dental Hygiene; and Dr. John Killip, adjunct professor of Restorative Clinical Sciences. Their article was co-written with Sharon K. Lanning, Michelle McGregor and Geralyn Crain.
