CLASSES OF THE 1950s

Robert Lindsey (DDS ’52) reports that “Mary died in July 2009. I’ve been living alone since, but doing well. I developed congestive heart failure in March 2016, and take meds and limit outside activities. I’m still active in local community government, still drive, no pain, eye sight and hearing are okay”

Robert Morrison (DDS ’57) retired in 2006, and since last year has been living at the Wesley Towers retirement community in Hutchinson, Kan.

William Slagle (DDS ’57) currently serves as professor and dean emeritus of the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry and as professor and associate director of the Center for Dental Education, University of Arkansas for Medical Science.

CLASSES OF THE 1960s

William D. Neal (DDS ’62) reports that Janice passed away on July 29, 2014.

Joe Weaver (DDS ’62) still plays tennis every day on the court in his backyard. He still goes to Europe every spring and every fall. He’s fluent in French, Italian and German.

Thomas Nelson (DDS ’62) is “still married to my beautiful wife, Marcia. We have three kids: Lee Foster, Ted Nelson, Lynne Hall; eight grandkids; and one great grandkid due in October. Happily retired, playing golf, traveling, and working in the yard”

Lyndal Gray Holmes (DDS, MS ’65), adjunct associate professor of UMKC Periodontics, is in his 45th year of teaching periodontology at the UMKC School of Dentistry. Dr. Holmes joined the faculty following five years of practice in Kansas City, which was preceded by three years of service in the U.S. Army that included active duty in the Central Highlands of Vietnam.

Dick Powell (DDS ’67) Dick retired 18 years ago and enjoys living in Surprise, Ariz.

Keith Likreutziger (DDS ’67) retired from Ochsner Medical Systems, Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery in 2013. His daughter, Dr. Katherine Boungoten, works with infection control in New Orleans, La. His son, Joseph Kreutziger, is a middle school principal and administrator in the Birch Wather Lenox School, Manhattan, N.Y.

Ralph Younger (DDS ’67) and his wife, Lynda, in 2016 provided $10,000 for a scholarship fund for the benefit of the UMKC School of Dentistry.

Charles J. Purma II (DDS ’67) is still practicing dentistry part time.

CLASSES OF THE 1970s

Joseph Spalitto (DDS ’72) was reappointed as Drug Commissioner of Jackson County by Frank White. He was installed as Exalted Ruler of Elks Lodge 26, the home lodge of Harry S. Truman.

James Parrott (DDS ’72) retired from the UMKC School of Dentistry faculty on Jan. 1, 2016, and continues to volunteer one day per week.

Ronald Wright (DDS ’72) served in the Army and was stationed in Iraq, 2008-2009. He retired from private practice August 15, 2013.

Jerry Cash (DDS ’73) reports that he has four grandchildren and one foster child. “Both Shara and our daughters are now working in our office, Cash Family Orthodontics. Shay Cash is an attorney”

Bill Boyce (DDS ’73) is still practicing and loving it. “I have five grandsons that are a delight. My wife, Marilyn, and I have been married for 48 years and are doing well!”

David Hamel (DDS ’77) and his wife, Cheri, recently celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary. Currently he serves on the ADA Council on Dental Benefit Programs. He still enjoys golf as a hobby and is loving their 20-month-old grandson!

John Scanlon (DDS ’77) is still working. He has a daughter who is a 2011 DDS UMKC grad.

Lon R. Vetter (DDS ’77) retired June, 1, 2016. He has five grandchildren. He has appeared in Who’s Who (2012–13) and 417 Magazine (2012-2014).

Mark Milda (DDS ’77) reports that he “is semi-retired after 39 wonderful years of general practice. Cheryl and I have been enjoying traveling (Germany, Italy, and Ireland recently). I’m continually working on my golf game and also visiting our grandchildren in California and Maryland”

David May (DDS ’77) serves as the assistant director of the Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency at Wichita State University (8th year). He retired in 2013 after 22 years of practicing periodontics.

Paul E. Miller (DDS ’77) is serving as president of the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontics, 2016-2017.

CLASSES OF THE 1980s

Earl Larson (DDS ’82) will be serving as the Greater St. Louis Dental Society (GSLDS) Trustee to the MDA starting in November 2016.

Jon Majers (DDS ’82) had his first grandchild, Conner, born this year.

Frank Schmidt (DDS ’82) is still in general practice in Branson, Mo.

John Hay (DDS ’87) and his wife, Megan, welcomed their first grandchild, Carter James Johnson, on Dec. 24, 2015.

Terry Myers (DDS ’87) has a son, Glen, who is a third-year dental student at UMKC and in the Air Force. His daughter, Katie, is studying international business at Loyola Chicago.

Mark Scantlan (DDS ’87) has served as president of the Southwest Coun­ties District of the Greater St. Louis Dental Society for over 15 years and has been nominated for the 2017 VP of the GSLDS. He has also received an ADA Humanitarian Award for his overseas missions to India, Kenya, Senegal, Honduras, and Guatemala. With five kids and eight grandkids, he stays very busy!

Lendall Shell’s (DDS ’87) son, Ryan, is working on his PhD in paleontology, and his son, Alex, is finishing his senior year at the University of Arkansas and then will go on to law school.

Stephen Matthews (DDS ’87) reports, “The adjacent space to my office became available and I’m expanding and adding a new dentist and a couple more dental hygienists. Instead of slowing down, I’m picking up. (Actually, I hope to slow down.)”

Melodee Armfield (DDS ’87) has a grandbaby, Sylvee Vera Dye. Melodee continues to work three days a week at the dental office. “I hear you have to start young.”

CLASSES OF THE 1990s

Allison Potter (DDS ’97) is married with two children and has a private practice in Lebanon, Mo.

Roger Lee (DDS ’97) married Karen in September 2012. They were expecting a baby boy in October 2016.

Conrad Journee (DDS ’97) has served as a past director of Greater Kansas City Dental Society (GKCDS), a past MDA delegate, a board member of MDIS, a WREB examiner, and a CRDTS examiner. He is a Woodbadge recipient, an ADA Diversity in Leadership member, and continues to travel the world.

CLASSES OF THE 2000s

Younes Tabrizi (DDS ’07) has a 4-year- old daughter and owns a practice in El Dorado Hills, Calif. “Working hard!”

Brenton Reavley (DDS ’07) earned Endodontic Board Certification in 2015.

David Ewing (DDS ’07) served as a dentist for the USAF from 2007 to 2011, earning the rank of Captain. He’s been working for Swope Health Services since 2011.

Michelle Fielden (DDS ’07) opened her own practice in December 2010. She just expanded and added new technology. Michelle will celebrate 24 years of marriage on August 16.

Guy Gross (DDS ’02) has been named to the clinical faculty for Osteo Ready Implants. He’s spent the past several years lecturing in addition to teaching hands-on implant placement, restorative and bone grafting.

Mark Harwood (DDS ’02) married Ashley on June 18, 2016.

Lauren Bales (DDS ’02) and her husband, Bernie, are settling into country life on their property outside of Mountain Grove, Mo. Their son, Jacob, will graduate this year from Waldorf College (Forest City, Iowa) with a degree in sports management. Their daughters, Ann and Abbey, are continuing their college educations at KU and UCM, respectively.

Chad Bulleigh (DDS ’02) had twins in June 2016 (a boy and a girl) who join their 2-year-old sister.

CLASSES OF THE 2010s

Brianna Ganson (DDS ’12) has two children: Knox (4) and Brinkley (2). She owns her own practice, Happy Teeth Dentistry, in Overland Park, Kan.

Amy Gensweider (DDS ’12) married Cam Salyers in April 2016. She started a Pediatric Dental Residency at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin in 2016.

Brad Green (DDS ’12) is a dentist anesthesiologist with CarePoint Anesthesia Group.

Jake Kirby (DDS ’12) is a dental partner with his brother-in-law, Jerod Crawford (DDS ’09), and sister-in-law, Ana Crawford (UMKC faculty), at Copeland Creek Dental. They were awarded a local Dental Office of the Year award in 2015. Jake’s wife, Jamie, is a physician at Trinity Mother Frances. They have a 6-year-old boy, Beau, a 3-year-old boy, Luke, a 17-month-old foster baby girl, and a 6-week-old boy, Ben.

Seth Rush (DDS ’12) completed his periodontal residency in 2015 and purchased a periodontal practice in Kansas City in 2016.

Tyler Slaughter (DDS ’12) says, “Since graduating we’ve opened our own practice and were voted City’s Best Dentist office. We have a 4-year-old and a 2-year-old”

Brett Sullivan (OMX ’13) and Dr. Jeff Gorski, UMKC professor of Oral and Craniofacial Sciences, enjoyed a chance encounter during Thanksgiving weekend in 2016 while they were vacationing with their families in the Oregon wilderness at Black Butte Ranch. Brett had been a student of Dr. Gorski at the School of Dentistry, so they were both thrilled to reminisce about old times and catch up on what’s new.
