About the Program
Are you considering becoming a dentist? Learn about rewarding careers in dentistry at our Dental Discovery program.
Dental Discovery program activities:
- Touring the UMKC School of Dentistry
- Shadowing students in the general dental clinic
- Meeting peers with similar interest and goals
- Making dental impressions
- Simulating using a dental drill
- Attending presentations by faculty, alumni and local practitioners
- Meeting our admissions staff and learning about the process for applying to dental school and how to become a successful dental school candidate
Qualifications and Expectations
All high school students are welcome to apply, but preference is given to students enrolled in a college preparatory curriculum at these high schools in the Kansas City Metro:
- Kansas City Missouri Public School District
- Kansas City Kansas Public Schools
- North Kansas City School District
- Alta Vista Charter High School
- Guadalupe Centers High School
- Grandview High School
- Ruskin High School
- Hogan Preparatory High School
- Piper High School
- Turner High School
- University Academy Charter School
Eligibility considerations:
- Minimum 3.0 GPA
- An interest in a career in dentistry or dental hygiene
- A disadvantaged background, including educational, economic or geographic
- A commitment to addressing disparities and promoting justice within the healthcare system
