The shadowing experience allows prospective students the opportunity to sit chair-side while a third or fourth-year dental student treats patients. Students may shadow in the general clinic or specialty clinics within the school when available.

Our shadowing sessions are from 9am- 12PM for the morning session and 1pm-4pm for the afternoon session. Students must arrive for shadowing by 9am for the morning session or 1pm for the afternoon session You may not be able to shadow if you arrive late for your session.

For local students: In order to best serve all shadowing students, local students can only shadow 1 shadowing session per week for 3 consecutive weeks, and then must take at least 3 weeks off. After 3 weeks, a student can then schedule for another 3 week rotation.

For out-of-town-students: Students travelling from out-of-town may set up consecutive days shadowing during their stay in Kansas City. This must not exceed 5 days.

The dress code is business casual. No open-toed shoes or jeans are permitted. Socks are required. Long hair must be pulled back. Scrubs are also acceptable.

Visitors should acquire a visitor’s parking permit from the front desk on the first floor. Visitors should park in the surface lot at 25th & Charlotte (#28A). UMKC students with student parking permits should park in parking structure at 24th & Charlotte (#28). It is the visitor’s responsibility to pay the meter if they choose to park in a meter spot.

Once parked, please sign in at the Office of Student Programs. We are in room 420. We’re the first office to the right after you exit the elevator.
