Dental Hygiene Admission Criteria

Admissions Prerequisites

  • Satisfactory completion of approximately two years of college (60 credit hours) is required at the time of entry. Prerequisites must be completed before starting in the dental hygiene program, but applicants can be in-progress to complete the prerequisites at the time of application. Prerequisites must be complete by the end of the spring semester preceding entry into the program.
  • Minimum cumulative and science GPA of a 2.75

Dental Hygiene Prerequisites

    • Completion of the UMKC General Education requirement (satisfied by UMKC Essentials, Missouri Core 42, or the completion of an Associates of Arts degree or any bachelor’s degree)
    • BIO 102, 108 or 109 – Intro to Biology (3-5 credit hours)
    • CHEM 211 & 211L– College Chemistry I (4-6)
    • LS – MCRB 112 – Intro to Microbiology or a higher microbiology (3-5)
    • LS – ANATO 218 – Human Anatomy (3-4)
    • LS – PHYS 217 – Human Physiology (3-4)
      • If taking a combined Anatomy & Physiology, it must be a sequence of two semesters. Ex: A&P I and A&P II
    • MATH 110 – Precalculus Algebra (3)
    • COMM-ST 110 – Fundamentals of Effective Speaking or Interpersonal Communication (3)
    • SOCIOL 101 Introduction to Sociology (3)
    • PSYCH 210 General Psychology (3)
