About the Rinehart Foundation
The Roy J. Rinehart Memorial Foundation ensures the UMKC School of Dentistry remains a world-class institution.
Donations to the Rinehart Foundation provide financial resources to support scholarships, fellowships, professorships, professional development and projects that advance oral health. That translates to investments in nationally known research, updated facilities and cutting edge technology, recruitment of distinguished faculty and students, financial scholarships for students in need, service outreach projects, research assistance for faculty and graduate students and more.
The Rinehart Foundation also builds endowments for long-term success. Those endowments yield nearly $600,000 in scholarships to UMKC dental and dental hygiene students each year.
About Dr. Roy James Rinehart
The foundation’s namesake, Dr. Roy James Rinehart, is a guiding force. He served as school dean for 29 years (1928-1957). His vision and energy transformed the UMKC School of Dentistry into a nationally recognized institution. Rinehart’s philosophy formed the school’s bedrock for rigorous academics, respected research and supportive relationships among employees and students. He demanded high standards but garnered genuine respect from faculty, staff and civic leaders.
The foundation perpetuates Dr. Rinehart’s legacy and ensures the UMKC School of Dentistry is among the elite dental schools for generations to come.
