Emeritus Professor / Department of Periodontology
School of Dentistry

Biography

My life-long association with UMKC started as an undergraduate student in the fall of 1958.

My interest in dentistry was the result of multiple fraternity brothers being accepted into the School of Dentistry, I simply followed their example. While in dental school I was mentored by Dr. Lee R. Brown, a microbiologist, and Dr. William Lefkowitz, a histologist/pathologist. As a result of their mentorship, I began my career in the basic sciences, as related to dentistry and more specifically, the specialty of periodontics. Over the last six decades I have done research and published on the microbiology and histopathology of inflammatory periodontal disease; lasers in the treatment of periodontitis, and non-surgical periodontal therapy.
