The Office of Student Programs hosted incoming dental students at its annual Welcome Reception on Friday, March 2, 2018. Members of the Dental Class of 2022, guests, and the UMKC School of Dentistry community had an opportunity to come together and celebrate the students’ acceptance to the UMKC School of Dentistry. This pre-orientation event offers information to students about the path ahead and the financial picture of paying for dental school and managing student debt.
Over 92 percent of the incoming students were in attendance at this optional program. The total attendance, including guests, was over 200. The incoming class will return to the School of Dentistry August 15 to begin their first year of dental school. The geographic distribution of the 109 new students includes the following states: MO (71), KS (21), HI (4), AR (2), CO (1), GA (1), LA (1), MD (1), MN (1), TX (2), Kuwait (4). The class includes 54 females and 55 males. Their average science GPA is 3.7 and their DAT academic average is 19.8. They all possess extensive dental experience through observation and assisting, as well as extensive community service participation.
