The UMKC Dental and Dental Hygienists’ Alumni Associations welcomed 2017 Midwest Dental Conference (MDC) attendees to the first of four days of meetings, reunions, celebrations, Technical Exhibits and Scientific Sessions at the Sheraton Kansas City Hotel and Westin Hotel at Crown Center.

A fun MDC feature this year brings the Conference’s theme, “Connect,” to life by encouraging conference goers to share their thoughts, memories and feelings about how they connect with the UMKC School of Dentistry. Attendees can share what’s on their mind and in their heart by posting sticky notes on reunion boards or taking a “selfie” at special MDC Connect signs at the Welcome Party and in the Exhibit Hall. Participants can share their comments and selfies through social media at #umkcmdc.

Thursday’s Scientific Sessions featured programs tailored to the specialties of periodontics, prosthodontics, oral surgery and pediatrics. But the day wasn’t only about learning. As the day eased into night, evening attire emerged among the more than 300 people attending the annual Pouring from the Heart charity gala. Patrons of the event enjoyed an unforgettable evening of fine food (five gourmet courses) and drink (professionally selected pairings). Dinner was followed by an auction of incredible travel and entertainment packages. All proceeds from the event support the UMKC School of Dentistry’s Indigent Care Fund, which enables disadvantaged patients to receive essential oral health care at the School.
