Oral and Craniofacial Sciences Researchers, Faculty and Students Present at the 2023 AADOCR Annual Meeting

Fourteen faculty, students and postdoctoral fellows represented the UMKC School of Dentistry at the 2023 American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (AADOCR) Meeting in Portland, OR, this March. Between awards, recognition and several lectures and workshops, the dental school had a profound presence at the meeting.

Dr. Viviane Hass, Postdoctoral Fellow, Department of Oral and Craniofacial Sciences, was the second-place winner for AADOCR/CADR Joseph Lister Award for New Investigators. The award is for new investigators within 10 years of their first academic appointment and was created to award young investigators in the American and Canadian Divisions of the IADR with original research in oral disease prevention or oral health promotion.

Nik Wickerhauser, DDS Class of 2025, Summer Scholar, was recognized in the opening ceremony as a competitor in the Student Competition for Advancing Dental Research and its Application (SCADA) Basic and Translational Science Category.

Dr. Erin Ealba Bumann, Assistant Professor, Department of Oral and Craniofacial Sciences, was voted in as the new Member-at-Large for the AADOCR Board of Directors for a three-year term and has now become the President of the Board of Directors for SCADA. Dr. Bumann also presented a hands-on workshop, What We Wish We Knew When Starting in Dental Academics.

Multiple faculty and students gave presentations including:

  • Dr. Yong Wang, Professor, Department of Oral and Craniofacial Sciences, Improving Dentin Collagen Biostability in Bonding Interfaces by Dual-functional Etchants.
