The UMKC School of Dentistry Clinics treat 33,000 individual patients through nearly 100,000 visits each year. While many patients can pay for their care many others are unable to do so. In 2017 alone, 771 patients were unable to afford or complete payments on their treatments. The crucial dollars raised at Pouring from the Heart to support indigent care are used for patients in need of vital dental care that have no way to make it happen on their own. The funds raised can give patients experiences we take for granted every day, including the ability to eat solid foods, enjoy pain-free oral health, and feel confident talking and interacting with others. Not only does this assistance directly help the community surrounding the School, but it powerfully affects our students: providing them the opportunity to experience making an impact on a patient’s life, helping them find cases to meet their clinical requirements, and teaching them the importance of giving to others. Because of your generosity, UMKC School of Dentistry can give these deserving patients the pivotal treatments they need, creating healthy smiles and a thankful community.
