Assistant Clinical Professor and Director for External Rotations, Shelley Howard, joined the Department of Dental Public Health and Behavioral Science at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Dentistry during the fall of 2021. She became interested in Dental Public Health while working on her dental hygiene bachelor’s completion program at Wichita State University, leading her to pursue an additional Bachelor’s in Health Management and Community Development from WSU, and a Master’s in Health Services Administration from the University of Kansas School of Medicine.
Shelley believes everyone we meet deserves the best of our time, talents and attention, and is honored to work with dental students to help them refine and expand their communication skills with patients from all walks of life. Her passion for dental health equity and access to care inspires her relationships with community health partners and drives her to pursue a broad array of meaningful opportunities for dental students throughout their external rotations.
While at home, she enjoys reading, painting, and gardening. Shelley met her husband while Alvin camping with friends, and they now enjoy RV adventures with their two children, dogs and cats.
