Shankar Rengasamy Venugopalan received his dental degree (BDS) from the Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University, India. Subsequently obtained his PhD in Biomedical Sciences from the Texas A & M University System Health Science Center Baylor College of Dentistry. He also received a DMSc degree in Oral Biology from the Harvard University and a Certificate in Advanced Graduate Education in Orthodontics from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. Currently, he is an assistant professor in the Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics and has an adjunct appointment in the Department of Oral and Craniofacial Sciences at the UMKC School of Dentistry. He teaches DDS and advanced graduate students in Orthodontics at the dental school. He has an interest in genetics/genomics and his research is focused on understanding the genetics of craniofacial development.
