Donggao Zhao, Ph.D., has been a full-time faculty member at UMKC School of Dentistry since March 2017. He directs the Electron Microscope Laboratory (EM Lab) in School of Dentistry, responsible for training and teaching users with hands-on skills and theories, operation of EM instruments, maintaining the facility at its optimized conditions, and implementing and improving experimental protocols and procedures. Dr. Zhao’s research interests range from physical sciences to life sciences, especially the applications of electron microbeam and X-ray techniques in the characterization of naturally occurred and laboratory-synthesized inorganic and organic specimens/materials in physical sciences, life sciences and engineering. He has been teaching courses on Electron Microbeam and X-ray Techniques since 2004. Prior to joining UMKC School of Dentistry, he served as a faculty member at the University of Texas at Austin and received a Ph.D. in Mineralogy from the University of Michigan in 1998.
