Entry Level Dental Hygiene Admission Criteria

Admissions Prerequisites

UMKC StudentsTransfer Students
  • Satisfactory completion of approximately academic two years of college. 58 credit hours are required at the time of application. Specific coursework must be completed before admission to the dental hygiene program and satisfy the general education program prerequisites listed below.
  • Minimum cumulative and science GPA of a 2.5
  • Average accepted students’ science GPA: 3.4/cumulative GPA: 3.5
  • Complete UMKC General Education Core.
  • Sample Major Map
  • Complete dental hygiene specific prerequisites
    – BIO 102, 108 or 109
    – CHEM 211 & 211L– General Chemistry (4-6 credit hours)
    – LS – MCRB 112 – Microbiology or a higher microbiology(3-5 credit hours)
    – LS – ANATO 218 – Anatomy (3-4 credit hours)
    – LS – PHYS 217 – Physiology (3-4 credit hours)
    (If taking a combined Anatomy & Physiology, it must be a sequence of two semesters.)
    – COMM-ST 110 Fundamentals of Effective Speaking or Interpersonal Communication (3)
    – SOCIOL 101 Introduction to Sociology (3)
    – PSYCH 210 General Psychology (3)
