VOLUNTEERS WANTED FOR
MOUTH RINSE STUDY
The Clinical Research Center at the School of Dentistry will be conducting a study on an experimental mouth rinse. The study will assess the effectiveness of the mouth rinse on gingivitis. The study will involve 5 visits over 12 weeks. People applying need to be healthy, be at least 18 years old, not allergic to iodine, and have no serious gum disease. If you qualify for the study you will be compensated for your time.

The Clinical Research Center (CRC) dedicates three treatment cubicles to research contracts for the testing and evaluation of dental-related materials and therapies. In addition, CRC draws upon the vast expertise of the dental school’s faculty and staff to advance the body of scientific knowledge in oral health care. The efforts of CRC have attracted more than three million dollars in external funding to the school.
Patients with diseases or conditions being studied are offered opportunities to assist in the research projects. Patients volunteering to participate may be eligible for reduced care costs, compensation or follow-up treatments. To obtain additional information call 816/235-2200. Current and recent projects include:
- Evaluation of various products used for tooth whitening
- Testing the effectiveness of antimicrobial mouth rinses
- Determining the value of a TMD device for increasing the comfort of patients suffering from temporomandibular disorders
- Examination of the patient usability and clinical value of a variety of manual, battery-powered, and rechargeable toothbrushes
- Assessing the effectiveness of antimicrobials delivered in a controlled local procedure for the treatment of periodontitis
- Evaluating the effectiveness of resorbable barriers used in tissue-guided regeneration in the treatment of periodontal defects
- Comparing different approaches to diagnosing periodontal disease
