Dr. Chuanyi Wang is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Oral Biology, UMKC School of Dentistry. He received his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Chinese Academy of Sciences in July 1998, with the honor of "The Excellent Prize of the President Scholarship of Chinese Academy of Sciences". In the same year, he was awarded "Alexender von Humboldt (AvH) Research Fellowship".
Prior to joining UMKC, Dr. Wang worked at Tufts University as a postdoctoral and research associate for five years (2000-2006). He also spent two years (1998-2000) in Germany as an AvH research fellow (at Institute for Solar Energy Research in Hannover and Institute for Physical and Theoretical Chemistry of Free University Berlin). His research covers surface chemistry and photochemistry of metal and semiconductor nanomaterials in general and includes the following fields: synthesis, characterization, surface modification and assembly of nanoparticles; electron transfer reactions at the nanoparticle/liquid interface; heterogeneous catalysis and TiO2-based photocatalysis (fundamental aspects and environmental technology); application of various spectroscopic and analytical techniques. Currently, he mainly performs spectroscopic research on biomaterials and biology relevant processes by using micro-Raman and FTIR.
Dr. Wang is a member of International Association of Colloid and Interface Scientists, Sigma Xi-the Scientific Research Society and American Chemical Society.
