Dr. Robert E. Krumlauf is the Scientific Director of the Stowers Institute (click here for SIMR Web page http://www.stowers-institute.org/labs/KrumlaufLab.asp). In addition to his affiliation with the UMKC School of Dentistry Department of Oral Biology, he also holds an appointment as Professor in the University of Kansas Medical School Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology. Dr. Krumlauf received his B.E. in chemical engineering from Vanderbilt University in 1970 and served as a Chief Chemical Engineer at Stokley Van Camp from 1970-75. He earned his Ph.D. in developmental biology from Ohio State University in 1979. Dr. Krumlauf did postdoctoral training at the Beatson Institute for Cancer Research in Glasgow, Scotland and at the Institute for Cancer Research in Philadelphia, PA . In 1985 he moved to the National Institute for Medical Research in London where he became the Division Head of Developmental Neurobiology. He joined the Stowers Institute upon its opening in 2000. His research focuses on understanding the molecular and cellular pathways that govern patterning of the nervous system, basic body plan and craniofacial development of vertebrate embryos and how these processes are altered or affected in human diseases.
