David Eick, Ph.D., received his B.S. degree in Mathematics/Dental Materials in 1963 from the University of Michigan, a M.S. in Materials Engineering from George Washington University in 1966 and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering/Surface Chemistry from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1971. Academic appointments include the School of Dentistry at the State University of New York at Buffalo where he was an Associate Professor with tenure, Associate Professor - Professor (tenure)/Director of Dental Biomaterials at Oral Roberts University, and Professor (tenure 1989) Department of Oral Biology, School of Dentistry, University of Missouri-Kansas City. He became a Curators' Professor in 1989, and Chair of the Department of Oral Biology in 1991. In 1997 he received a Faculty Fellowship Award from the University of Kansas City Board of Trustees; in 2002 he received a Faculty Fellow Award from the UMKC Trustees; and in 2004 he received the Wilmer Souder Award from the International Association for Dental Research in recognition of his scientific achievement in biomaterials. The Souder is the oldest award granted by International Association for Dental Research (IADR) recognizing internationally distinguished scientists.
