Dr. Jeffrey Nickel is an Associate Professor in the Division of Post-Graduate Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, and the Department of Oral Biology. In addition to a D.M.D., M.Sc., and Ph.D., he is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics (2002). As the Program Director of the Post-Graduate Orthodontic and Dentofacial Orthopedics Program, his responsibilities include clinical and didactic teaching of graduate orthodontic specialty residents, and overseeing resident research. His research focus is basic and clinical research in the areas of neurophysiology, biomechanics, and bone physiology. Before joining UMKC, he was a faculty member of the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Manitoba (1992-1996), and the College of Dentistry, University of Nebraska Medical Center (1996-2006).
Dr. Nickel is a member of numerous professional organizations including the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Royal College of Dentists of Canada, American Board of Orthodontics, and International and American Associations of Dental Research. He also serves as a reviewer for the National Institutes of Health.
