Information:

 

Dr. Jeff Paul Gorski is a Professor with the Bone Biology Program with full graduate privileges in the Department of Oral and Craniofacial Sciences, UMKC School of Dentistry and a member in the UMKC Center of Excellence in Mineralized Tissues.  He received his Ph.D. degree in biochemistry and oncology, with a minor in chemistry from the McArdle Laboratory for Cancer Research, University of Wisconsin-Madison.  Postdoctoral training in molecular immunology was under the mentorship of Hans Muller-Eberhard and Tony Hugli at the Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation, La Jolla, CA.  Dr. Gorski’s first faculty position was at the Mayo Clinic and Mayo Medical School, Rochester, MN. He was Director of the Orthopaedic Biochemistry laboratory at Mayo from 1979 until moving to UMKC in 1987. Dr. Gorski has spent year-long sabbaticals at the University of Minnesota (1981-1982) with Ted Oegema and at Harvard Medical School (1997-1998) with Bjorn R. Olsen, along with extended research visits at Merck Research Labs (Westpoint, PA) with Gideon Rodan, the National Institute of Dental Research-NIH (Bethesda, MD) with Larry W. Fisher, and University of Bern (Bern, Switzerland) with Daniel Studer.  In collaboration with an international group of talented colleagues, Jeff is actively researching 1) the mechanism responsible for delamination of teeth after high dose radiation therapy of the mouth and 2) the mechanism of intramembranous or primary bone formation supported by external grant funding.  He has mentored a number of M.Sc., Ph.D. students, orthopaedic residents, and postdoctoral fellows, serving on over 35 Ph.D. graduate committees, in addition toalso mentoring over 30 medical and dental student research projects while at Mayo and at UMKC. Dr. Gorski is a past recipient of the UKC Trustees Research Fellowship, the Charnley Award from the Hip Society, and the Zimmer Research Award. He serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Biological Chemistry, is a member of the University of Missouri Research Board, and is a past member of NIH, American Heart Association, and Canadian Research Council standing study sections and review panels.
