Treatment Process
The treatment process at the School of Dentistry differs from that of a private office. On your first visit you will receive an orientation, screening and X-rays so we can determine your dental needs and if your treatment can be done by a dental student. If you have complex treatment needs, you will be referred to the school’s AEGD program, Dental Faculty Practice or to private practice.
Your student will examine your mouth and review your medical history. At the end of this examination, you will schedule another visit. Your student doctor will consult with faculty about your dental needs, and develop a treatment plan that includes faculty input and approval. You will learn about the dental work you need, the fees for that treatment and the amount of time your treatment will require. If you agree to this plan, treatment will begin. Most appointments start at 9:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. and last most of the morning or afternoon.
You must accompany your children when they come to the School for treatment if they are under age 18. Patients need a valid, government issued picture ID or proof of current address and other type of picture ID. Where applicable, you will need to show power of attorney, guardianship documents, etc.
Children are not allowed in the adult treatment areas.
