The Campaign for the UMKC School of Dentistry

Since its founding in 1881, the UMKC School of Dentistry has earned a reputation for excellence. We are consistently at the national forefront, preparing tomorrow’s oral health professionals, delivering state-of-the-art oral health care to patients, providing practitioners with continuing education and training opportunities, and engaging in groundbreaking research.

This School could not have reached these lofty heights without the tireless commitment of farsighted alumni and community leaders who know that our state and our nation need an outstanding dental school like ours. It is the work of these dedicated visionaries, working alongside our passionate team of administrators, faculty, staff and students, that has brought us this far. And it is this team that will help us take the next steps along the path of excellence, because the most exciting days for the School are yet to come.

On November 9, 2011, UMKC announced a comprehensive campaign to take the next steps toward
building UMKC into a preeminent urban university. As one of the top programs at the University, the School of Dentistry plays a large part in the past and future excellence at UMKC. Our focus during the campaign will be:
• Creating innovative educational programs that represent a new frontier. We are developing our Practice Management curriculum, our Innovation Center (a state-of-the-art facility) and opportunities to meld technology with teaching and scientific inquiry.
• Pioneering groundbreaking research by recruiting, developing and retaining vibrant faculty, taking bench research to chairside with collaborative clinical translational and basic science research, and educating students in new ways to understand the value of scientific inquiry.
• Advancing our exceptional service to the community by looking at our involvement at every level; this includes investigation of satellite programs, interaction with K-12 students, participation in Community Health Centers and our cutting-edge Oncology Dental Support Clinic.

You will hear more about each of these projects as we move forward. With your help, the UMKC School of Dentistry will be THE source of futuristic programming, groundbreaking research and commitment to service that carries the rich tradition of innovation to greater national leadership.
