Periodontics

The periodontic postgraduate program is designed to prepare a dentist for a career in clinical periodontics, research and teaching. Throughout the 36-month program residents acquire a deep understanding of problems in the biology and pathology of oral tissues, and how to treat these problems with the most current knowledge and techniques. Two students are accepted into the program each year. The periodontist specializes in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting the gums and supporting structures of the teeth. These dentists are experts in non-surgical and surgical treatment of periodontal disease including oral plastic surgery. Periodontists also practice in the placement and maintenance of dental implants. For additional referral and treatment information call 816/235-2147.
