Pediatric Dentistry

The School of Dentistry partners with Children's Mercy Hospital for the clinical portion of this 24-month postgraduate program. Studies are designed to prepare the student for a dental practice limited to children. Academic training includes interdisciplinary seminars and coursework in the basic sciences. Clinical training in pediatric dentistry is primarily conducted at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. Pediatric dentists are the "pediatricians of dentistry". These dentists provide oral care for infants and children through adolescence, including those with special health needs. Pediatric dentists work to establish good preventive dental health habits in children and focus on prevention, early detection and treatment of dental diseases.
