UMKC dental students and faculty, UMKC/Penn Valley dental assisting students, and Kansas City Chiefs players and coaches teamed up with Team Smile to deliver dental care to 300 area elementary school students at Arrowhead Stadium, Tuesday, Oct. 22, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The UMKC School of Dentistry student volunteer group, Students Take Action (STA), coordinated the School’s participation in this annual event. The event, sponsored by United Way, is organized by Team Smile, a nonprofit dental organization based in Kansas City whose “mission is to create connections between children's service groups, dental professionals, professional sports organizations and their athletes. Together, we can provide underserved children in need, a life changing dental experience in which the excitement and allure of high profile sports reinforces the value of a life-long commitment to dental health care. Each child in our program is provided with free preventative care and education, and if necessary dental treatment.” Each year Team Smile partners with volunteers from the UMKC School of Dentistry to host events during the Royals baseball season and the Chiefs football season.

The UMKC dental students who participated in the 2013 Team Smile/KC Chiefs event were:
