The UMKC School of Dentistry celebrated two things at once at the 2011 edition of its Faculty and Staff Recognition Celebration: the accomplishments of the School’s fantastic personnel as well as the UMKC Conservatory of Music’s first performance at the phenomenal facilities at the newly opened Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Kansas City, Mo. A crowd of about 100 UMKC faculty and staff celebrated one another’s accomplishments at a reception in a meeting room in the Kauffman Center that featured a wall of southern-facing windows that looked out over Union Station and Liberty Memorial. After the recognition ceremony, many of the attendees remained at the center and attended performances by the UMKC Conservatory of Music’s Concert Jazz Band (directed by Bobby Watson) and Wind Symphony (directed by Steven D. Davis) with special guest PRISM Quartet. The concert took place in the Kauffman Center’s magnificent Helzberg Hall.
