
Governor Jay Nixon held a press conference at the UMKC School of Dentistry, Tuesday morning, October 20, 2009, to discuss the implementation of Caring for Missourians, a new state program that will significantly expand educational opportunities for healthcare professionals in high-demand fields. Under the innovative grant program, UMKC will receive special funds to increase enrollment in its Doctor of Dental Surgery program by 17 students over the next four years. The UMKC School’s of Medicine, Pharmacy and Nursing also are receiving special funding to increase their class size. Other two- and four-year, public institutions in Missouri also are expanding their capacity for training doctors, dentists, nurses and other health care professionals through Caring for Missourians.
