Upon graduation in 2001, Dr. Niewald became very active in the Northwest Dental Society. He served as editor of its newsletter in only his first year out of school, and in 2004, became the youngest president ever of the NWDS. Dr. Craig Rechkemmer Receives MDA Presidential Citation Award

Dr. Craig Rechkemmer, Ozark, Mo., was presented with the 2007 Presidential Citation at the 2007 Missouri Dental Association (MDA) House of Delegates.

The award recognizes his instrumental role in the success of the Ronald McDonald House Charities “Tooth Truck” dental outreach program and his tireless efforts to improve the oral health of underprivileged children in the Springfield, Mo., area.

In addition to his vital part in the success of the Tooth Truck, Dr. Rechkemmer has spent time and energy developing a program through the Springfield Public Schools for kids in need of dental care.

The Tooth Truck is a national model program in the delivery of dental care to underserved children. Since its debut in summer 2002, nearly 6,000 children have been treated through over 17,000 dental appointments valued at $3.7 million. The Tooth Truck visits area schools where school nurses identify Medicaid-eligible children and/or kids in the free or reduced school lunch program with the biggest needs. The Tooth Truck provides a full range of dental services, including X-rays, cleanings and sealants, root canals and fillings.

Dr. Reckhmmer received his BA in biology from UMKC in 2002 and his DDS from the UMKC School of Dentistry that same year. He has worked with the Tooth Truck since. Dr. Reckhmmer also is a nationally certified emergency medical technician, Missouri certified fire fighter and certified private pilot.

Among other accolades, Dr. Reckhmmer was the UMKC Dental Student of the Year (2000) and was one of Springfield Magazine’s “40 under 40” in 2005. He and his wife, Brandi, are expecting their first child soon.
