William F. Slagle
(D.D.S. ’57)
Memphis , Tenn.
has announced his retirement, effective June 30, 2003,
after 22 years of service as acting dean and dean of
the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry. Dr.
Slagle served as executive associate dean from 1972–80
under the guidance of Dean Jack E. Wells (D.D.S. ’51).
Upon the illness of Dean Wells in 1980 and his subsequent
death in 1981, Slagle was appointed dean of the UT College
of Dentistry. “Jack Wells was my friend, mentor and
colleague,” said Slagle. “He was a true visionary in
dental education, and I was privileged to have him as
a friend and to work with him in dental education.”
Slagle is the longest serving dean in the history of
the UT College of Dentistry.
