Another Excellent Year for Pouring from the Heart

Steven Hechler (r) (D.D.S. ’84) and his wife, Leigh,
were honored with a Rinehart Medallion
presented by Robert Peterson (D.D.S. ’63),
chair of the Rinehart Foundation.

Co-chairs Stan Hite (D.D.S. ’71) and Dan Blackwell (D.D.S. ’68) promised the Steering Committee they would do whatever it took to keep the third annual Pouring from fhe Heart fresh, exciting and memorable. The goal of raising $50,000 for the UMKC Oncology Dental Support Clinic was set. The 380 guests who attended the gala event discovered that the co-chairs had delivered on their promises. Sponsors Goetze Dental and Partners in Cancer Care Health Midwest and Saint Luke’s Shawnee Mission Health System also helped make the evening extraordinary. Guests were greeted by a string quartet and complimentary sparkling wine as they entered the ambiance of the ballroom, beautifully decorated by Jan Haun (DH ’81) and her committee. Guests enjoyed a five-course dinner prepared by Chef Edward Adel of the Westin Crown Center , accompanied by wines specially selected by Dr. Brian Williams and provided by Corkscrew Wine Company. As dinner wound down, everyone could sense the excitement of things to come, as Magician Terry Magellson and KCTV-5’s Dana Wright warmed up the audience with some magic of their own. The incomparable George Nigro, ably assisted by his brother, David, along with Ron Stricker and Toby Tyler, took charge of the live auction of a few unique and irresistible items.

Mrs. E. Jane Pracht (r) received a Rinehart
Medallion and congratulations from Dean
Michael Reed (l) and Robert Peterson
(D.D.S. ’63), chair of the Rinehart Foundation.

The evening’s auction items included a trip to see Jay Leno and the “Tonight Show” in California , a gourmet dinner prepared by Grant Merritt (D.D.S. ’70, END ’72, M.S. ’73) at UMKC Chancellor Martha Gilliland’s home, and a variety of other trips, dinners and interesting items.

The organizers and guests of the 2001 Pouring from the Heart gala especially thank these generous donors to the auction:
