2001 Rinehart Medallion Recipients

The Rinehart Medallion honors the memory of Dr. Roy J. Rinehart, longtime dean and onetime owner of the Kansas City-Western Dental College, the predecessor of the UMKC School of Dentistry. The Rinehart Medallion is bestowed on alumni and friends of the school who have distinguished themselves through philanthropy or service. Each year Rinehart Medallions are given to recognize lifetime donors of $10,000 or more, the presidents of the Dental and Dental Hygienists’ Alumni Associations, and the Dental and Dental Hygiene Alumni of the Year.

Service Awards

Steven Hechler (r) (D.D.S. ’84) and his wife, Leigh, 
were honored with a Rinehart Medallion 
presented by Robert Peterson (D.D.S. ’63), 
chair of the Rinehart Foundation.

Paulette Spencer (D.D.S. ’78, Ph.D. ’93), 2000-2001 UMKC Dental Alumni Association President, is an associate professor in the UMKC Departments of Oral Biology and Periodontics.

Kim Resz (R.D.H. ’92), 2000-2001 UMKC Dental Hygienists’ Alumni Association President, practices in Olathe , Kansas . 

Michael McCunniff (D.D.S. ’83), 2001 Dental Alumnus of the Year, is an assistant professor in the UMKC Department of Dental Public Health and Behavioral Science and the director of Outreach.

Demetra D. Logothetis ( R.D.H. , M.S. ’86), 2001 Dental Hygienists’ Alumni Association Alumna of the Year, is the the director of the Dental Hygiene Program at the University of New Mexico .


 

Philanthropy Awards

Mrs. E. Jane Pracht (r) received a Rinehart 
Medallion and congratulations from Dean 
Michael Reed (l) and Robert Peterson 
(D.D.S. ’63), chair of the Rinehart Foundation.  

    Ms. Lillian B. Brockmann of Lenexa , Kansas assisted in establishing the memorial scholarship in memory of her daughter, Susan Brockmann-Bell, DH Class of ’85 and former faculty member of the UMKC Division of Dental Hygiene.

Steven L. Hechler, member of the D.D.S. Class of 1984.  He received his Orthodontic degree from Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Minnesota .  He currently is practicing in Overland Park , Kan.

Mrs. E. Jane Pracht of Holton , Kansas endowed a scholarship in memory of her late husband, Don R. Pracht, D.D.S. Class of 1968, who passed away in August 1997.

Joseph P. Spalitto, member of the D.D.S. Class of 1972 and currently practicing in Kansas City , Mo.

Mrs. Virginia G. Stowers, a noted local philanthropist donated funds to help initiate a graduate program in endodontics.

David W. Zemke, UMKC Ortho 1960 is an orthodontist in Minneapolis , Minn.

The Rinehart Foundation is pleased to honor the Dental Class of 1958, which has endowed a scholarship.

with a Rinehart Medallion. He was joined 
by his wife, Elizabeth, and his son, Pete. (D.D.S. ’00).
