Kansas
City Hosts ADA's 142nd Annual Session
Part 1
The ADA and Kansas City proved to
be a winning combination for the 142nd Annual Session.
The turnout, the entertainment, the education, and the
facilities all contributed to making the meeting and the
city enjoyable and memorable.

Bobby Watson,
a nationally known, locally loved
jazz saxophonist and UMKC Conservatory of Music
distinguished professor
in jazz studies, and other local musicians
provided musical
entertainment at the School of Dentistry’s open
house, Sunday evening.

Stan Hite (D.D.S.
’73), chair of the local arrangements committee
for the
ADA Annual Session, shared the sights of the meeting
with his daughter,
Shannyn Cole.
|

|
|
Fourth-year UMKC
dental student Shera Sims represented the UMKC
School of Dentistry in the Dentsply national table
clinic competition.

Paula Yehle (r),
manager of advancement at the School of Dentistry
,
greeted guests at the school’s open house Sunday
evening. More than
750 visitors enjoyed food and live music as well
as tours and demonstrations
at the school.

Walter Cronkite,
a native of Kansas City , shared the stage and
his
memories of Kansas City with his cousin, Mayor
Kay Barnes (UMKC ED ’71),
and the audience at the Opening Ceremony. Cronkite’s
father, W.L.
Cronkite, and grandfather, F.P. Cronkite, were
oral surgeons and
graduates of the Kansas City Dental College ,
the forerunner of the School
of Dentistry . The grandfather graduated in 1892,
and the father
graduated in 1914.
