Current and Past Research Studies

We have various research projects and training sessions that are conducted in our clinic.  The criteria for these studies vary.  We need patients with healthy mouths, cavities, and other restorative work as well as gum disease.  These studies come at various times throughout the year.
Results of clinical studies at UMKC Clinical Research Center have led to a wide array of discoveries including:

  • Development of a localized drug delivery product for periodontal therapy
  • Comparison of powered toothbrushes for reducing gingivitis
  • Determining the effectiveness of a device for increasing the comfort of temporomandibular patients
  • Comparing the effectiveness of various manual, battery-powered, and rechargeable toothbrushes
  • Evaluating the success of  resorbable barriers used in tissue guided regeneration in the treatment of periodontal defects
  • Assessing new and improved dental toothpastes
  • Evaluating new dental whitening products
  • Testing new mouth rinses to control gingivitis
  • Assessing a new localized drug delivery product for gum disease around dental implants
  • Comparing different approaches to diagnosing periodontal disease
